The Hiking Sugarloaf Mountain is a hiking tour that leads to the top of Morro da Urca (227m), which is part of the tourist complex of Sugar Loaf. The site integrates the urban cultural landscape that gave the city of Rio de Janeiro the title of World Heritage by UNESCO.
The protected area is on the shores of Guanabara Bay and is one of the main postcards of Rio de Janeiro. The most authentic way to get to know the place is to hike Morro da Urca trail and then take the world’s most famous cable car to top of Sugar Loaf.
The Hiking Sugarloaf Mountain starts at Claudio Coutinho Pathway, asphalt road on the banks of Praia Vermelha cove. The guide will lead the group along the trail until we reach a plateau where one can admire a beautiful view of the Guanabara Bay and Rio de Janeiro downtown. During the tour, it is common to spot some monkeys carrying their infants. We move on through a pleasant trail to the summit of Morro da Urca, where the first terminal of the cable car is located. Here’s where you take the second level of the cable car to go to the top of the Sugar Loaf and enjoy the stunning scenery from the top of this natural monument.
The sunset from the summit of Morro da Urca is one of the most beautiful images of the city, so we give the possibility of Hiking Sugarloaf Mountain happening in the afternoon. This tour duration is approximately 4:00 h and the ticket for the cable car is included in the tour.
