adventure designed to be the pinnacle in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is so much more than carnival and samba. There is a surrounding wilderness full of wildlife with huge mountain formations and sharp edges and beautifull valleys\u00a0waiting to be explored. This adventure is a 3-day trekking that crosses one of Brazil&#8217;s first national parks, the Serra dos \u00d3rg\u00e3os natural reserve followed by 3 more days camping in a place believed to be designed by the gods themselves: the Tr\u00eas Picos natural reserve.<\/p>\n<p>Just an hour away from the city of Rio de Janeiro, let&#8217;s enter the wild in the city of Petr\u00f3polis, known as the Imperial city, and cross the mountain ridge to leave the wild in Teres\u00f3polis. The first was named in honor of Brazil&#8217;s first emperor Pedro and the latter named in honor of his daughter-in-law Empress Teresa Cristina. Teres\u00f3polis is also the host city for Brazil national football team and because of that, to take a rest after this 3-day long course trekking, we&#8217;ll visit Granja Comary, the national team training center, before having a big lunch in a local upscale barbecue.<\/p>\n<h4>The &#8220;Brazilian Yosemite&#8221; Experience<\/h4>\n<p>After the trekking it&#8217;s time to take a good sleep at night because in the next day we&#8217;ll departure to the adventure in the biggest Rio de Janeiro State Park, Tr\u00eas Picos natural reserve in the city of Nova Friburgo. For its topographical formation, some people call the Tr\u00eas Picos State Park as the &#8220;Brazilian Yosemite&#8221;. We&#8217;ll camp at one of the park&#8217;s most beautiful camp sites in order to hike several small course trails to the summits around. The objective is to reach the first summit known as Castelos do A\u00e7u, where the first mountain shelter is located. That&#8217;s the spot we will overnight. Pack light (ask for our advisory) for it&#8217;s a tough ascent of about 1200m altitude gain and rough terrain. The views are incredible, though. We aim to reach the summit before sunset, then take a deep breath for its cinematic experience!<\/li>\n<li><em>Note: Since it&#8217;s a long and demanding hike, it&#8217;s not possible to have lunch, so by the evening we have a delicious meal suitable as lunch and dinner. It&#8217;s necessary to bring quick snacks with you to eat during the hike, we strongly recommend mixed nuts and cereals.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Note: The current overnight options are (depend on availability of the National Park) camping, bivaque (collective room without beds inside the mountain shelter), bunk bed (bed inside the mountain shelter). This second day is definitely the most beautiful day of the crossing. With ups and downs, ridges and valleys, we&#8217;ll make our way, always above 2.000 m, to the highest summit in the Park, the Pedra do Sino, with its 2.275 m of altitude. The sun comes up right behind our next destination: Tr\u00eas Picos (The Three Peaks). After the show, we start our descent, a long way but with less obstacles. Reaching the exit we&#8217;ll be in Teres\u00f3polis city, host for Brazil&#8217;s national football team. Because of that our transfer will take us for a visit in Granja Comary, the national team training center, before we can refill our energies in a local upscale barbecue. After lunch we head to our hotel to get a good rest before the next adventure.<\/li>\n<li><em>Note: The time for local barbecue lunch is late, usually around 4pm. Lunch is in &#8220;eat as much as you can&#8221; system, so dinner is not included.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><\/li>\n<li class=\"gabs-icons-descritivo\">\n<h6>Day 4: Tr\u00eas Picos State Park: The &#8220;Brazilian Yosemite&#8221;<\/h6>\n<ul class=\"gabs-icons\">\n<li class=\"gabs-icons-ampulheta\">Hiking time: 4\u00a0to 6h<\/li>\n<li>Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner<\/li>\n<li class=\"gabs-icons-ampulheta\">After hotel breakfast, hop in our transfer to go to the city of Nova Friburgo, in a valley known as Vale dos Frades, location of a big water bottling industry because of the clear and healthy local water fountains. That&#8217;s where we start our short hike to the camp site known as Vale dos Deuses (Valley of the Gods). The location was named after a local tale that says Gods battled for who could build the most beautiful mountain. Between huge walls of rock, we set camp and take a rest around the valley. There are several hiking options to the summits around, The Caixa de F\u00f3sforo (Matchbox), The Cabe\u00e7a de Drag\u00e3o (Dragon&#8217;s Head), The Pico M\u00e9dio (Medium Peak) and so on&#8230; We&#8217;ll spend the next two days exploring these locations.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gabs-icons-ampulheta\"><em>Note: Meals will be prepared by everybody using a roustic wood burning stove, but camping gas stoves will be available. Regarding inherent risks involved, please be aware to read &#8220;Exposure&#8221; iconograph before booking this product. Incidents such as falls, twists and scratches happen very often. It is mandatory to follow the instructions of the Leaders and to use safety equipment when requested.<\/p>\n<h6>Will my cell phone work? Wi-fi spots?<\/h6>\n<p>There is no mobile phone network while trekking in Serra dos \u00d3rg\u00e3os National Park and\u00a0Tr\u00eas Picos State Park nor we recommend the use of mobile devices, except for photography purposes. In such case, we recommend the use of power banks. Mobile phone and internet can be used when in Teres\u00f3polis.<\/p>\n<h6>How does the food works?\u00a0What do we eat?<\/h6>\n<p>During trekking we will have included one main meal per day, usually pasta with proteins. If you&#8217;re vegetarian, vegan or has any restrictions please advise our staff before departure. While exercising we don&#8217;t recommend meals, only snacks. Breakfast is not included. Therefore, we kindly ask you to bring your breakfast and snacks, both can be combined together. We highly recommend nut mixes.<\/p>\n<h6>How do we get water?<\/h6>\n<p>The water is 100% natural water and contains living microorganisms. If you&#8217;re not used to this type of ingestion, we recommend the use of water purification.<\/p>\n<h6>Are there bathroom facilities?<\/h6>\n<p>Yes. The mountain shelters provide bathroom facilities designed for minimum environmental impact. Please bring garbage bag and toilet paper with you for any emergency use.<\/p>\n<h6>How&#8217;s the group? Who will I be travelling with?<\/h6>\n<p>Our expeditions consists of small groups. In case of large number of people, we will divide into small groups that will hike with minimum interval. Other people might join the same group. If you want to go on a private group, contact us before booking.<\/p>\n<h6>What kind of gear do I need? What are the luggage restrictions? Packing tips?<\/h6>\n<p>A comfortable backpacking pack (60L minimum) is mandatory. Camping gear will be provided. Rentals are available in case you need, please let us know prior to departure. Aedes Aegypti is an urban mosquito, it does not proliferate in wild natural environments. No diseases transmitted by this mosquito will be found in the natural places visited (dengue, zyka, etc)<\/p>\n<h6>Do I have to bring cash?<\/h6>\n<p>We always recommend to bring cash with you. In Teres\u00f3polis there is possibility to buy local handcraft and souvenirs. Drinks and tips are not included also.<\/p>\n<h6>Where do we sleep?<\/h6>\n<p>While trekking the overnights will be either in mountain shelters or the camping sites nearby. It will depend entirely on the park&#8217;s availability. In Teres\u00f3polis the overnight will be in a medium class hotel.<\/p>\n<h6>Any wildlife risks?<\/h6>\n<p>The highest risk are\u00a0venomous animals. They usually get away from humans, but there is the possibility to find snakes or spiders along the way.<\/p>\n<h6>What&#8217;s the physical effort involved?<\/h6>\n<p>The trekking in Serra dos \u00d3rg\u00e3os National Park is extreme because of obstacles, distance and altitude variation.
