Unmissable Tours
Know what to do in Foz do Iguaçu
Do you have a trip planned to the tri-border area, but still don’t know what to do in Foz do Iguaçu? Check out our tips to discover the best tours in the region!
Foz do Iguaçu has tourist attractions that make the place one of the most sought-after and visited in South America. There is located the so-called ‘tri-border’ area, between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay.
In that region, there are highly interesting tourist reasons ranging from fantastic natural monuments, such as the Iguaçu Falls, waterfalls in the canyon formed on the Iguaçu River very close to its mouth on the Paraná River, where, by the way, there is the landmark of the tri-border between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, to grandiose man-made engineering works, like the Itaipu Dam, which has one of the most competitive tourist visitations in the region.
In this post, we will talk about 5 unmissable tips for those visiting the beautiful and super interesting region of Foz do Iguaçu.
1- RAFTING TOUR IN INFLATABLE BOATS INSIDE THE IGUAÇU FALLS CANYON (MACUCO SAFARI)
This thrilling ride, inside the canyon where the waters of the Iguaçu River plunge through numerous incredible falls, takes you right under the grand waterfalls of the Iguaçu Falls. This attraction is available within the Iguaçu National Park (Brazilian side). It begins with a quick tour, on a small train pulled by an electric car, through trails in the area of preserved forest, from the access point to the aquatic safari to the station where the boats are taken for the ride to the waterfalls. You can also opt for an additional activity that will make your tour even more unforgettable, which is a 20-meter rappelling descent into the waters of Salto Macuco before taking the aquatic safari through the canyon. Bring your camera (waterproof) and be prepared to get very wet. And be prepared for strong emotions as well.
2- NIGHT SHOW OF LIGHTS AND SOUNDS AT THE ITAIPU DAM
In addition to the already traditional tourist visit to the Itaipu Dam, one of the great engineering works of humanity, which stands side by side with some of the natural wonders that are the Iguaçu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you also have the opportunity to enjoy a night show of lights and sounds that the Itaipu Dam offers to tourists. A soundtrack accompanies the attraction and enhances the lighting of the dam, which is 8 km long.
3- HELICOPTER RIDE OVER THE IGUAÇU NATIONAL PARK
This third tip is for those who are not afraid of heights: a helicopter flight over the Iguaçu National Park and, especially over the Iguaçu River canyon with its numerous waterfalls, which make up the Iguaçu Falls.
4- VISIT THE IGUAZÚ NATIONAL PARK (ARGENTINE SIDE) ON A FULL MOON NIGHT
In the park, there is a small railway with a tourist train (Tren Ecológico de la Selva), which covers a total of 18 km within the forest, from the entrance of the park (Central Station) to the access walkway to visit the Devil’s Throat waterfall (Garganta del Diablo Station). In this suggested tour, everything is under the light of the full moon. There’s no need to even bring a flashlight. It’s an incredible experience.
5- GASTRONOMIC EXPERIENCE IN PUERTO IGUAZÚ (ARGENTINE SIDE)
While in Foz do Iguaçu, another tour we recommend is a visit, as part of your evening schedule, to the neighboring city on the Argentine side (Puerto Iguazú). A good road gets you there quickly (depending on the movement at the Argentine customs on the border with Brazil), after crossing the large bridge over the Iguaçu River. In Puerto Iguazú, you can sample typical Argentine cuisine, mainly from the Misiones region, such as red meat dishes known as Bife de Chorizo, Asados, or Parrillas. There are also dishes made with fish from the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers, such as Surubi, Pacú, and Dorado. We also recommend visiting restaurants where some excellent gastronomic experiences are offered (such as the already famous Boutique Hotel de la Fonte) with a mix of international fusion cuisine (Argentine cuisine from the Misiones region with Italian, French, Mexican, etc.). All this can be accompanied by hundreds of labels of wine from the excellent Argentine and Chilean production. It is also worth reserving a night to experience these gastronomic adventures.
